2021 Updates and 2022 Goals

2021 was really ok for me, all things considered. In the aftermath of 2020, where the trauma continued for many people, my word for the year, compassion, was really something I embraced deeply. I incorporated compassion into my parenting and my teaching pretty successfully. 2021 brought some great relief: In person visits with friends and family, some travel with car trips, occasionally going out to eat or to the movies, and lots of outdoor activities.

2021 Updates

Even though I never posted my goals to my blog, I made a lovely spread for them in my journal. Here’s the list with my updates:

  1. Meditate every day YES, until mid-October
  2. Read 42 books YES
  3. Research anti-racism, parenting YES I’m learning a lot in these areas
  4. Write journaling and research YES, especially journaling. I journaled every day in my Hobonichi 5 year journal, and regularly in my other journals.
  5. Walk, get outside YES I’ve been enjoying all the camping and hiking with my family
  6. Craft, knit and journal YES I’ve been really enjoying my art(ish) journaling. I knit a little less in 2021 (mostly due to my load at work), but I still finished some lovely projects

Word of the year: Thrive

I needed a word this year that continued the work started with compassion, and also complemented it. After a healing-centered education symposium I attended in the fall, the word “thrive” stood out to me. It’s an action word, but a successful and satisfying action.
